Myringoplasty
Myringoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at repairing a perforated eardrum, also known as the tympanic membrane. This condition can result from infections, trauma, or chronic ear disease, leading to hearing loss and increased risk of ear infections. The surgery involves placing a graft over the hole in the eardrum to restore its integrity and function.
During the procedure, an ear, nose, and throat specialist, or ENT surgeon, typically uses local or general anesthesia. The graft material can be taken from the patient's own tissue or from a donor source. Recovery usually involves follow-up visits to ensure proper healing and restoration of hearing.
