Twin Pregnancy
A twin pregnancy occurs when a woman carries two fetuses simultaneously. This can happen in two ways: identical twins, which develop from a single fertilized egg that splits into two, or fraternal twins, which result from two separate eggs being fertilized by two different sperm.
Twin pregnancies are generally monitored more closely than single pregnancies due to increased risks, such as preterm labor and gestational diabetes. Expecting parents may also experience more physical discomfort and emotional challenges, but many families find joy in welcoming two babies at once.
