Multiple Pregnancy
Multiple pregnancy occurs when a woman carries more than one fetus at the same time. This can happen with twins, triplets, or even higher-order multiples. Multiple pregnancies can result from the fertilization of multiple eggs or the splitting of a single fertilized egg.
The likelihood of multiple pregnancies has increased due to factors such as advanced maternal age and the use of fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF). While multiple pregnancies can be exciting, they also carry higher risks for both the mother and the babies, including complications during pregnancy and delivery.
