Twelfth Imam
The "Twelfth Imam," also known as Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi, is a significant figure in Shia Islam. He is believed to be the final Imam in a line of twelve leaders, who are considered to be divinely appointed. According to Shia belief, he was born in 869 CE and went into occultation, meaning he is hidden from the public but will return to bring justice and peace to the world.
The concept of the Twelfth Imam is central to the Mahdist belief, which holds that he will reappear at the end of times. His return is expected to coincide with a period of great turmoil, and he will lead the faithful in establishing a just society. This belief influences the religious and political landscape in various Shia communities around the world.
