Turtle Mountain (Alberta)
Turtle Mountain is a prominent geological feature located in southwestern Alberta, Canada. It rises approximately 2,200 meters above sea level and is part of the larger Porcupine Hills range. The mountain is known for its unique rock formations and diverse ecosystems, making it a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking and wildlife observation.
The area surrounding Turtle Mountain is rich in history, particularly due to the 1903 Frank Slide, a massive rockslide that occurred on its slopes. This event dramatically altered the landscape and led to the establishment of the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, which educates visitors about the geological and historical significance of the region.
