Turks in Bulgaria
The Turks in Bulgaria are a significant ethnic minority, primarily residing in the northeastern and southeastern regions of the country. They are descendants of the Ottoman Turks who settled in Bulgaria during the Ottoman Empire, which lasted for nearly five centuries. Today, they make up about 8% of Bulgaria's population and maintain their cultural identity through language, traditions, and religious practices.
The Turkish language is widely spoken among the community, and many Turks in Bulgaria identify as Muslim. Over the years, they have faced various challenges, including periods of assimilation and discrimination. Despite this, they continue to contribute to Bulgaria's cultural diversity and social fabric.
