Turkana Boy
Turkana Boy is the nickname given to a nearly complete skeleton of a young hominin, discovered in 1984 near Lake Turkana in Kenya. This fossil, officially known as KNM-WT 15000, is estimated to be about 1.6 million years old and belongs to the species Homo erectus. The skeleton is believed to represent a boy who was around 8 to 12 years old at the time of death.
The discovery of Turkana Boy has provided significant insights into the physical characteristics and development of early human ancestors. Standing approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall, he had a smaller brain size compared to modern humans but exhibited a more modern body structure, indicating adaptations for long-distance walking and running.
