Tunica Tribe
The Tunica Tribe is a Native American group originally from the southeastern United States, particularly in what is now Louisiana. Historically, they were known for their agricultural practices and fishing, living along the Mississippi River. The tribe spoke the Tunica language, which is part of the Muskogean language family.
In the 18th century, the Tunica faced challenges due to European colonization and conflicts with other tribes. Today, the Tunica Tribe is recognized as a sovereign nation and continues to preserve its cultural heritage while engaging in economic development, including the operation of the Tunica-Biloxi Casino.
