Trireme
A trireme is an ancient type of warship that was used primarily by the Ancient Greeks and Phoenicians around the 5th century BCE. It is characterized by its three rows of oars on each side, allowing for greater speed and maneuverability in naval battles. The trireme was typically about 37 meters long and could carry around 170 rowers, along with soldiers and supplies.
These ships played a crucial role in naval warfare, particularly during the Peloponnesian War. The design of the trireme allowed for quick attacks and retreats, making it an effective vessel for ramming enemy ships. Its influence can be seen in later naval designs and tactics throughout history.
