Trident I
The Trident I, also known as the UGM-96 Trident I, is a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) developed by the United States. It was designed to provide a reliable second-strike capability during the Cold War, ensuring deterrence against potential nuclear threats. The missile has a range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles and can carry multiple warheads, allowing it to target several locations simultaneously.
Introduced in the late 1970s, the Trident I was deployed on the Ohio-class submarines. It was later succeeded by the more advanced Trident II (D5) missile, which offers improved accuracy and range. The Trident I played a crucial role in the U.S. strategic nuclear arsenal during its operational years.
