Treasure Fleet
The "Treasure Fleet" refers to a series of maritime expeditions organized by the Ming Dynasty of China during the early 15th century. These fleets, led by the admiral Zheng He, aimed to establish trade routes, showcase Chinese power, and collect tribute from various nations across Asia and Africa. The voyages included large ships known as "treasure ships," which were among the largest wooden vessels of their time.
The Treasure Fleet made seven major voyages between 1405 and 1433, reaching destinations such as Southeast Asia, India, and the East African coast. These expeditions facilitated cultural exchange and trade, significantly impacting the regions visited. However, after the death of Zheng He, the Ming government shifted its focus inward, leading to the eventual decline of these maritime endeavors.
