Transnistria conflict
The Transnistria conflict is a territorial dispute between Moldova and the breakaway region of Transnistria, which declared independence in 1990. This region, located along the Dniester River, has a predominantly Russian-speaking population and seeks to join Russia. The conflict escalated into a brief war in 1992, resulting in a ceasefire but no formal resolution.
Since then, Transnistria has operated as a self-declared republic, though it is not recognized by any United Nations member state. The situation remains tense, with Moldova seeking reunification and Transnistria maintaining close ties with Russia, complicating regional stability.
