Total Hysterectomy
A total hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the entire uterus, including the cervix. This operation is often performed to treat various medical conditions, such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, or certain types of cancer. After the surgery, a woman can no longer become pregnant.
In some cases, a total hysterectomy may also involve the removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes, known as a salpingo-oophorectomy. Recovery from the procedure typically takes several weeks, and patients may experience changes in hormone levels, especially if the ovaries are removed. Regular follow-up care is important for monitoring health post-surgery.
