Tommy Douglas
Tommy Douglas was a Canadian politician and a key figure in the development of the country's healthcare system. Born on October 20, 1904, in Camelon, Scotland, he immigrated to Canada with his family as a child. Douglas served as the Premier of Saskatchewan from 1944 to 1961 and is often referred to as the "Father of Medicare" for his role in introducing universal healthcare in the province.
In 1961, he became the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), advocating for social justice and progressive policies. Douglas was also a member of the House of Commons and was recognized for his commitment to improving the lives of Canadians through public services. He passed away on February 24, 1986.
