Tolkāppiyar
Tolkāppiyar is an ancient Tamil scholar and the author of the Tolkāppiyam, a foundational text on Tamil grammar and poetics. This work, believed to have been composed around the 3rd century BCE, is one of the earliest known treatises on the Tamil language and provides insights into its structure, phonetics, and syntax.
The Tolkāppiyam is divided into three main sections: Ezhuthu, Porul, and Yāpparu, which cover letters, meaning, and literary composition, respectively. Tolkāppiyar's contributions have significantly influenced Tamil literature and linguistics, establishing a framework that continues to be relevant in the study of the language today.
