Tolai People
The Tolai people are an indigenous group from the eastern coast of New Britain, an island in Papua New Guinea. They primarily inhabit the area around Rabaul, a town known for its volcanic activity. The Tolai have a rich cultural heritage, with traditions that include music, dance, and art, often reflecting their connection to the land and sea.
Traditionally, the Tolai economy is based on subsistence agriculture, fishing, and trade. They cultivate crops such as coconuts, taro, and sweet potatoes. The Tolai are also known for their unique social structure, which includes matrilineal inheritance and strong community ties, fostering cooperation and support among members.
