Title VII
Title VII is a part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. This law applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including federal, state, and local governments. It aims to create a fair workplace by ensuring that hiring, firing, and promotions are based on merit rather than personal characteristics.
Under Title VII, individuals who believe they have been discriminated against can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC investigates these claims and can take action if it finds evidence of discrimination, helping to protect workers' rights and promote equality in the workplace.
