Titania is the largest moon of the planet Uranus and was discovered in 1787 by the astronomer William Herschel. It has a diameter of about 1,578 kilometers (980 miles) and is composed mainly of water ice and rocky material. Titania's surface features include canyons, craters, and a variety of geological formations, indicating a history of tectonic activity.
The moon is named after the queen of the fairies in William Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Titania orbits Uranus at a distance of approximately 436,000 kilometers (271,000 miles) and takes about 8.7 Earth days to complete one orbit.
