Timucuan Indian
The Timucuan Indians were a group of Native American tribes that lived in what is now northeastern Florida and southeastern Georgia. They spoke the Timucua language and were known for their agricultural practices, fishing, and hunting. The Timucuan people built villages along rivers and coastal areas, relying on the rich natural resources of their environment.
In the 16th century, the arrival of European explorers, particularly the Spanish, significantly impacted the Timucuan population. Diseases brought by the Europeans, along with conflicts and enslavement, led to a dramatic decline in their numbers. Today, the legacy of the Timucuan Indians is preserved in historical sites and cultural studies.
