Tibetan independence movement
The Tibetan independence movement seeks to establish an independent state for Tibet, which is currently governed by China. This movement has its roots in the historical and cultural identity of the Tibetan people, who have distinct traditions, language, and religion, primarily Buddhism.
Since the 1950s, when China asserted control over Tibet, various groups and individuals have advocated for greater autonomy or complete independence. The movement has gained international attention, particularly through the efforts of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, who promotes non-violent resistance and dialogue with the Chinese government.
