Tibetan Government in Exile
The Tibetan Government in Exile (TGiE) is a political organization established in 1959 after the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India following the Chinese invasion of Tibet. It aims to preserve Tibetan culture, promote human rights, and advocate for the autonomy of Tibet within the framework of the People's Republic of China. The TGiE operates from Dharamshala, India, and is recognized by many countries as the legitimate representative of the Tibetan people.
The TGiE is led by the Sikyong, who is elected by the Tibetan diaspora. It has various departments that address issues such as education, health, and environmental protection. The organization also engages in international advocacy to raise awareness about the situation in Tibet and seeks support for the Tibetan cause from global communities and governments.
