Third Dynasty of Ur
The Third Dynasty of Ur (circa 2112–2004 BCE) was a significant period in ancient Mesopotamia, marked by the revival of Sumerian culture and centralized governance. Founded by Ur-Nammu, this dynasty is known for its impressive architectural achievements, including the construction of the Ziggurat of Ur, a massive step pyramid that served as a temple complex.
During this era, the city of Ur became a major political and economic center. The dynasty implemented a codified legal system, known as the Code of Ur-Nammu, which is one of the earliest known legal codes. The Third Dynasty of Ur ultimately fell due to internal strife and external pressures, leading to the rise of the Isin-Larsa period.
