The Last King of Sri Lanka
The last king of Sri Lanka was Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, who ruled from 1798 until 1815. He was the last monarch of the Kandy Kingdom, which was located in the central highlands of the island. His reign was marked by internal strife and external pressures, particularly from the British Empire, which sought to expand its influence in the region.
In 1815, after a series of conflicts, the British captured Kandy and deposed Sri Vikrama Rajasinha. He was exiled to India, marking the end of the monarchy in Sri Lanka. His removal led to the complete annexation of the island by the British, fundamentally changing its political landscape.
