The Last King of England
"The Last King of England" refers to the historical figure of King Edward VIII, who reigned briefly in 1936. His reign lasted only 326 days, as he abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée. This decision caused a constitutional crisis in the United Kingdom, as marrying a divorced woman with living ex-husbands was considered unacceptable at the time.
After his abdication, Edward was given the title of Duke of Windsor and spent much of his life in France. His abdication marked a significant moment in British history, leading to the ascension of his brother, King George VI, and ultimately changing the course of the monarchy.
