The Black Paintings
"The Black Paintings" is a series of 14 artworks created by the Spanish painter Francisco Goya between 1819 and 1823. These paintings were originally displayed in his home, the Quinta del Sordo, and are characterized by their dark themes and somber tones, reflecting Goya's personal struggles and the turbulent times in Spain.
The paintings depict various subjects, including scenes of violence, despair, and mythological figures. Notable works from the series include "Saturn Devouring His Son" and "Witches' Sabbath." Today, "The Black Paintings" are considered a significant contribution to the Romanticism movement and are housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
