Tetraodontidae
The family Tetraodontidae, commonly known as pufferfish, includes a variety of species found in tropical and subtropical waters. These fish are known for their unique ability to inflate their bodies by swallowing water or air, which helps them evade predators. Pufferfish are characterized by their spiny skin and can be recognized by their distinctive shape.
Many species within the Tetraodontidae family contain toxins, such as tetrodotoxin, which can be lethal to humans and other animals if ingested. Despite this danger, some cultures consider pufferfish a delicacy, particularly in Japanese cuisine, where it is prepared as fugu by specially trained chefs.
