Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo
Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo is the President of Equatorial Guinea, having held the position since 1979. He is one of the longest-serving leaders in the world and came to power after a military coup that ousted his uncle, Francisco Macías Nguema. Obiang's government has been marked by allegations of human rights abuses and corruption.
Under Obiang's leadership, Equatorial Guinea has experienced significant economic growth, primarily due to its oil reserves. However, the wealth generated has not been evenly distributed, leading to widespread poverty among the population. The country remains one of the richest in Africa per capita, yet many citizens face challenges in accessing basic services.
