Tensor Tympani
The Tensor Tympani is a small muscle located in the middle ear. It attaches to the malleus, one of the three tiny bones that help transmit sound vibrations. This muscle plays a role in protecting the inner ear from loud sounds by tensing and dampening the movement of the malleus.
When the Tensor Tympani contracts, it can also help reduce the perception of certain sounds, such as chewing or speaking. This action is part of the ear's natural response to maintain hearing sensitivity and protect the delicate structures within the ear, including the Cochlea and Auditory Nerve.
