Tennessee History
Tennessee's history began with Native American tribes, including the Cherokee and Chickasaw, who inhabited the region for thousands of years. European exploration started in the 16th century, leading to the establishment of settlements. In 1796, Tennessee became the 16th state of the United States.
During the 19th century, Tennessee played a significant role in the Civil War, being a battleground for many key conflicts. The state was also known for its contributions to music, particularly in cities like Nashville and Memphis, which became centers for country and blues music, respectively.
