Tekeze River
The Tekeze River is a significant waterway located in northern Ethiopia. It is a tributary of the Blue Nile and flows through the rugged terrain of the Ethiopian Highlands. The river is approximately 360 kilometers long and plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem and agriculture, providing water for irrigation and supporting various wildlife.
The Tekeze River is also known for the Tekeze Dam, which was completed in 2009. This dam is one of the largest in Ethiopia and generates hydroelectric power, contributing to the country's energy needs. The river's waters are vital for both energy production and sustaining the livelihoods of nearby communities.
