Te Whare Tapa Whā
Te Whare Tapa Whā is a Māori health model developed by Sir Mason Durie in 1984. It represents health as a whare (house) with four walls, each symbolizing a different aspect of well-being: taha wairua (spiritual health), taha hinengaro (mental health), taha tinana (physical health), and taha whānau (family health). All four dimensions are interconnected and essential for overall health.
This holistic approach emphasizes that well-being is not just the absence of illness but a balance of all four aspects. By addressing each wall of the whare, individuals can achieve a more comprehensive understanding of their health and well-being, fostering a sense of harmony and balance in their lives.
