Te Puea Herangi
Te Puea Herangi was a prominent Māori leader born in 1883 in New Zealand. She was a member of the Waikato iwi and played a significant role in advocating for the rights and welfare of her people. Te Puea was known for her efforts in education and social reform, particularly during the early 20th century.
She is best remembered for her leadership in the establishment of the Kīngitanga movement, which sought to unify Māori tribes under a single leadership. Te Puea also worked to support those affected by the Great Depression, providing assistance and promoting self-sufficiency within her community.
