Tay Son Rebellion
The Tay Son Rebellion was a significant uprising in Vietnam that occurred from 1771 to 1802. It was led by the Tay Son brothers—Nguyen Hue, Nguyen Nhac, and Nguyen Van Hue—who aimed to overthrow the ruling Nguyen lords in southern Vietnam. The rebellion gained widespread support from peasants and aimed to address social injustices and economic hardships.
The movement successfully captured key cities, including Hue, and established a new government. In 1789, the Tay Son forces defeated the Ming dynasty troops in the north, solidifying their power. However, the rebellion eventually faced challenges from the Nguyen dynasty, leading to its decline by the early 19th century.
