Tavurvur
Tavurvur is an active stratovolcano located on New Britain, an island in Papua New Guinea. It is part of the Rabaul volcanic complex and is known for its frequent eruptions, with significant activity recorded in 1994 that led to the evacuation of the nearby town of Rabaul.
The volcano rises about 600 meters above sea level and features a steep, conical shape. Its eruptions are primarily explosive, producing ash clouds that can affect air travel and local communities. Tavurvur is closely monitored by the Volcanological Survey of Papua New Guinea to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding areas.
