Tataviam people
The Tataviam people are a Native American group originally from the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas in Southern California. They are part of the larger Tongva cultural group and traditionally spoke the Tataviam language, which is now considered extinct. Their historical territory included rich natural resources, allowing them to thrive through hunting, gathering, and fishing.
Today, the Tataviam people are recognized as a distinct tribe, working to preserve their cultural heritage and history. They engage in various initiatives to educate the public about their traditions and advocate for their rights as Indigenous people in California.
