Tarbela Dam
Tarbela Dam is one of the largest earth-filled dams in the world, located on the Indus River in Pakistan. Completed in 1976, it was built primarily for irrigation, flood control, and hydroelectric power generation. The dam has a height of 147 meters and a length of 2,743 meters, creating a large reservoir that helps manage water resources in the region.
The dam plays a crucial role in supporting agriculture in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces by providing irrigation water. It also contributes significantly to the national grid by generating electricity, with a total installed capacity of over 4,800 megawatts.
