Tapasya (Austerity)
Tapasya, or austerity, is a practice found in various spiritual traditions, particularly in Hinduism and Buddhism. It involves self-discipline and renunciation of physical comforts to achieve spiritual growth and enlightenment. Practitioners often engage in fasting, meditation, or other forms of self-denial to purify the mind and body.
The goal of tapasya is to cultivate inner strength and focus, allowing individuals to transcend worldly distractions. This practice is believed to lead to greater self-awareness and connection with the divine. Many spiritual leaders, such as Mahatma Gandhi, have emphasized the importance of austerity in personal development and social change.
