Tanaim
The term "Tanaim" refers to a group of Jewish scholars and teachers who lived during the time of the Mishnah, roughly from 10 to 220 CE. They played a crucial role in the development of Jewish law and tradition, compiling and interpreting the teachings of earlier sages. Their discussions and rulings form the foundation of the Talmud.
The Tanaim are known for their debates and differing opinions, which are recorded in the Mishnah. Each Tana, or individual scholar, is often identified by their unique teachings and contributions to Jewish thought. Their work continues to influence Jewish practice and scholarship today.
