Tamil Weddings
Tamil weddings are vibrant and colorful celebrations that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Tamil people. Typically, these weddings are held over several days and include various rituals, such as the Kashi Yatra, where the groom pretends to leave for a pilgrimage, symbolizing his commitment to the bride. The ceremonies often take place in a mandapam, adorned with flowers and traditional decorations.
The main wedding ceremony, known as Thali Kettu, involves the groom tying a sacred thread, or thali, around the bride's neck, signifying their union. Other customs include the Saptapadi, where the couple takes seven steps together, each representing a vow. These rituals emphasize family, love, and commitment in Tamil culture.
