Talayotic period
The Talayotic period refers to a significant phase in the prehistoric culture of the Balearic Islands, particularly on the island of Mallorca and Menorca. This period, which lasted from around 1500 BC to 123 BC, is characterized by the construction of large stone structures known as talayots, which served as watchtowers or communal buildings. The people of this era were primarily engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, and trade.
During the Talayotic period, the society developed complex social structures and built impressive megalithic monuments, including taulas and burial sites called navetes. These structures reflect the advanced architectural skills of the inhabitants and their cultural practices. The Talayotic culture eventually transitioned into the Roman period, marking a significant shift in the region's history.
