Takotsubo syndrome
Takotsubo syndrome, also known as "broken heart syndrome," is a temporary heart condition that mimics a heart attack. It is often triggered by extreme emotional or physical stress, leading to a sudden weakening of the heart muscle. This condition causes symptoms like chest pain and shortness of breath, but it is usually reversible.
The name "Takotsubo" comes from a Japanese octopus trap, as the heart's shape resembles the trap during the syndrome. Diagnosis typically involves electrocardiograms and echocardiograms, and most patients recover fully with appropriate treatment and management of stressors.
