T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus Type 2
T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus Type 2 (HTLV-2) is a type of virus that primarily infects T-cells, a crucial part of the immune system. It is part of the Human T-Lymphotropic Virus family and is less common than its counterpart, HTLV-1. HTLV-2 is mainly found in certain populations, including Indigenous groups in the Americas and some intravenous drug users.
While many people infected with HTLV-2 do not show symptoms, the virus can be associated with various health issues, including neurological disorders and certain types of cancer. Transmission occurs through blood, sexual contact, and from mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding.
