Tây Sơn Rebellion
The Tây Sơn Rebellion was a significant uprising in Vietnam that began in 1771. It was led by the Tây Sơn brothers, who aimed to overthrow the ruling Nguyễn lords in southern Vietnam. The rebellion gained widespread support from the peasantry, who were suffering under heavy taxation and oppression. The Tây Sơn forces were known for their effective military strategies and rapid movements.
By 1789, the Tây Sơn had successfully captured the capital, Phú Xuân, and established control over much of Vietnam. However, their rule faced challenges, including the invasion by the Qing dynasty from China. The rebellion ultimately led to the rise of the Nguyễn dynasty, which would govern Vietnam for much of the 19th century.
