Synthetic Opioids
Synthetic opioids are man-made drugs designed to mimic the effects of natural opioids, such as morphine and codeine. They are often prescribed for pain management but can be highly potent and addictive. Common examples include fentanyl and carfentanil, which are significantly stronger than traditional opioids.
These substances work by binding to the same receptors in the brain as natural opioids, leading to pain relief and feelings of euphoria. However, their potency increases the risk of overdose, making them a major concern in the ongoing opioid crisis affecting many countries.
