Sybil (Prophetess)
Sybil, often referred to as a Prophetess, is a figure from ancient history known for her prophetic abilities. She is associated with various cultures, particularly in Greece and Rome, where she was believed to deliver messages from the gods. The most famous of these is the Sibylline Books, a collection of oracular texts that were consulted by leaders for guidance.
The term "Sybil" can also refer to several specific prophetesses, such as the Cumaean Sibyl, who resided in Cumae, Italy. These women were often depicted as mysterious figures, possessing knowledge of the future and the fate of nations. Their prophecies were typically delivered in cryptic verses, requiring interpretation by priests or scholars.
