Swedish Civil War
The Swedish Civil War, also known as the Swedish War of Liberation, took place from 1521 to 1523. It was a conflict between supporters of the Kalmar Union, which united the crowns of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, and those who sought independence for Sweden. The war was primarily led by Gustav Vasa, who aimed to overthrow the Danish King Christian II and establish a separate Swedish monarchy.
The war culminated in the decisive battle of Gustav Vasa's forces against the Danish troops, leading to the liberation of Sweden. In 1523, Gustav Vasa was elected King of Sweden, marking the end of the civil war and the beginning of a new era of Swedish independence and governance.
