Swara
Swara is a term used in Indian classical music that refers to a musical note. It is one of the fundamental elements in the creation of melodies and is essential for both vocal and instrumental performances. In Indian music, there are seven primary swaras, which are similar to the Western musical scale's notes: Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, and Ni. Each swara has its unique pitch and emotional quality, contributing to the overall expression of a piece.
In addition to its musical significance, swara is also associated with the concept of raga, which is a framework for improvisation and composition in Indian classical music. Each raga is built upon a specific set of swaras and evokes particular moods or feelings. Musicians use swaras to create intricate patterns and variations, allowing for a rich and diverse musical experience.
