Sumpah Pemuda
Sumpah Pemuda, or the Youth Pledge, is a significant event in Indonesian history that took place on October 28, 1928. It was a declaration made by young Indonesian nationalists during the Second Indonesian Youth Congress in Batavia, now known as Jakarta. The pledge emphasized unity among the diverse ethnic groups in Indonesia and aimed to foster a sense of nationalism and independence from colonial rule.
The Sumpah Pemuda consists of three main points: to acknowledge one homeland, Indonesia; to recognize one nation, the Indonesian people; and to uphold one language, the Indonesian language. This pledge played a crucial role in uniting various groups in the struggle for independence, ultimately leading to Indonesia's freedom from Dutch colonialism in 1945.
