The Sumatran tiger is a subspecies of tiger found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is the smallest of all tiger subspecies, with males weighing between 220 to 310 pounds. These tigers have distinctive dark stripes on their orange fur, which helps them blend into their forest habitat. Sumatran tigers primarily hunt deer, wild boar, and other small mammals. They are solitary animals, marking their territory with scent markings. Unfortunately, they are critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching, with fewer than 400 individuals estimated to remain in the wild.
