Sufi Whirling
Sufi Whirling is a form of physically active meditation practiced by the Mevlevi Order, a Sufi sect founded by the followers of the poet Rumi. During this spiritual dance, participants spin in circles, which symbolizes the soul's journey towards God. The whirling is often accompanied by music and chanting, creating a serene atmosphere that enhances the meditative experience.
The dance involves specific movements, where the whirler extends one arm upward to receive divine energy and the other arm downward to share it with the earth. This practice aims to achieve a state of spiritual ecstasy and connection with the divine, promoting inner peace and unity.
